Deskrawl Difficulty: Normal, Nightmare, and Inferno
Unlocking a difficulty is not the same as being ready to farm it. Use final-boss gates, stable-clear tests, and reward comparisons before moving a working build into Nightmare or Inferno.
Unlock the difficulties in order
Use a readiness gate before switching
- The final boss dies consistently rather than after one lucky attempt.
- Regular waves remain fast enough that rewards per hour will not collapse.
- The build survives elites without constant manual potion or skill rescue.
- A coherent gear/rune direction is in place, with one fallback item set.
- The minion and carriage can support the planned session length.
Treat current scaling numbers as patch-sensitive
These ratios are community-documented launch values, not an official permanent balance contract.
Know what the higher tier is meant to open
The current community guide reports Black Mist Legendary items beginning in Nightmare and Divine equipment beginning in Inferno, with both world and vendor routes. It also reports the Mythic Rift as Inferno content.
Do not chase a rare category while the build cannot clear reliably. Unlocking better loot does not guarantee enough drops per hour to beat a stable lower tier.
Return to town to switch and test
Current field guides report that difficulty can only be changed in town. Prepare the gear, minion, consumables, and fallback plan there, then test the first map for several cycles.
If the new difficulty is unstable, stepping back is efficient progression—not failure. Keep the unlock and return when one concrete bottleneck has improved.
Adjustable difficulty and Mythic challenges are official. Current unlock rules, scaling ratios, Black Mist, Divine gear, and town-only switching are cross-checked from a launch-week community guide and should be rechecked after patches.
